Cults of Diversity in Corporations - The Other End of the Scale

Cults of Diversity in Corporations - The Other End of the Scale
By: Lance Winslow

Most modern corporations have something about workplace diversity in their mission statement somewhere. This is necessary to empower all employees, but what happens when this is taken too far and the diversity become a cult in and of itself?
How can we be sure that our new diversity style does not also become a cult - a cult of diversity? Thus forcing diversity on a system, on the management, and making that new standard the new cult? Forcing diversity is also problematic.
You know round up one of every type of person and stick them on the team? Then tell the team "we are great because we are diverse" as there is a lot of that going on. Oh, wait we need another Asian on the team, this doesn't look right? Or we need a Transportation Secretary, but it needs to be a Hispanic so no one feels left out? Or, oh crap, we with all our diversity we left out the token white guy, whoops, isn't that a shame?
Also, I've watched the systematic attacks of those who wish to maintain their individuality to the forces of the socialist mobs within the corporate cultures, who proclaim everyone is right and wonderful "as long as they think like us!"
Do we destroy the individual to foster unity? Give up self to belong to an organization? How does that serve those in the organization and maybe its true what Groucho Marx said; "why would I want to be in a group that would have me as a member?"And how do we get original thought, innovation and best efforts if we force our diversity programs on the group. Sure we inspire a few folks that formerly felt pushed down to innovate but at what expense to the organization.
